Advertisement for Myself
Today the excellent people at Ahadada Books have released my first venture into e-books, Torque. It is a selection of recent poetry, and is part of a chapbook series edited for Ahadada by Catherine Daly. It includes a sequence called Specula which I wrote as part of a tri-partite investigation of the Mediaeval women mystics (the other parts were an essay, published in the online magazine How2, and a radio play, which was broadcast on Radio National).
And, as all poetry ought to be, it's free. You can download Torque here.

On a completely (or, rather, relatively) unrelated note, you should hire and watch the movie Torque. While it may be a motorcycle movie, I'm sure you, like me, will find it visually ravishing. Forget the story: watch for the visual invention.
Um, I'll go and read your poems now, so that I might actually have something of value to contribute...!
Hi Matt - I'll note that one. Though it sounds like it mightn't be at my local Civic Video - !
I rented The Machinist last week. Visually arresting and moody but the film loses interest once the pieces starting falling into place. Really a Twilight Zone ep stretched into feature length. You should probably give it a miss.
What was Matthew saying about poetry?
Torque is poetry, in all its senses. That's what Matthew was saying.
Alison, I read Matthew's comment a full 24 hours after I read your initial post so I think it's a bit much to expect me to retain the fact that "Torque" is the name of your poetry collection AND a movie. Sure I should've gone back and read the original post and avoided embarrassing myself, but it was an inordinately long post and some of us have work to do. I also noticed about an hour ago that I'd put my underwear on the wrong way this morning so it seems I'm not at the top of my form all round.
Troubadour, I don't believe for a moment that you have work to do. I expect you're hanging around some internet cafe, in between offending respectable people with your inside out underwear. But as they say in the lolly factory, it takes all sorts.
Alison, having outed me re: my internet cafe activities (how did you know?) I've been up all night trying to think of a devastating response.
Here it is.
Earlier in this thread you suggested that the movie Torque:
"...sounds like it mightn't be at my local Civic Video - !"
I rang your local Civic Video (I presume the one in Williamstown) and they do have Torque! It's on the shelves as I write! Two copies!
So who looks foolish now?
On a completely unrelated matter, I started reading your poems. I really liked them (but I can't put on my underwear properly so what would I know?)
